Cooper Place Baby

Today on Mama Finds we feature Lynne Burton, owner of Cooper Place Baby. Cooper Place Baby makes the most gorgeous swaddle blankets!  Not only are they super-soft bamboo/cotton blend, but their prints go beyond your typical “baby” designs. Featuring STEM, Sight Word, and Counting swaddles, their blankets soothe and care for babies, yet enlighten toddlers, children, and even mom and dad (not gonna lie before getting my Periodic Table swaddle blanket I probably hadn’t looked the elements since high school!)

“When I found out I was expecting my second baby, I realized my life was going to get a lot more complicated really soon! I wanted to have a swaddle blanket for my newborn son that would feel special to my older daughter as well. So, I started with a sight word swaddle blanket that I could throw in my diaper bag to wrap my baby, but also pull out with my daughter to practice letters here and there. Babies can’t read (obviously) but babies are not the only ones who see swaddle blankets. My daughter gets practice with numbers, counting, letters, sight words, and my husband and I can brush up on our STEM subjects with our genius collection. Now we have eight educational designs on swaddle blankets!” -Lynne, Cooper Place Baby

“I LOVE designing products that are useful to moms on multiple levels. Being a parent comes with so much stuff, it’s nice to have a product that is multi-functional and long-lasting. I see my almost-4-year-old daughter still treasure her blanket as a comfort item and I’m happy that our blankets aren’t too “babyish” for a toddler or preschooler to adore. Our blankets are modern, minimal, and educational–all reasons why I’m not anxious for my preschooler to “grow out” of her precious blankie.” -Lynne, Cooper Place Baby

“The Sight Word Swaddle collection is really great when I’m out and about with my two kids. My daughter is learning to sound out words now and it helps to have a convenient and USEFUL learning tool with us–because I never leave my house without at least one swaddle blanket! -Lynne, Cooper Place Baby

“From a design perspective, the Vintage Alphabet swaddle strikes me every time I see it hanging in my daughter’s room.” -Lynne, Cooper Place Baby

STEM-loving parents rave about the Periodic Table and Taxonomy Swaddles. And all of their blankets are 70% bamboo rayon and 30% cotton, which make them incredibly soft. The number one comment they hear from customers is that their blankets are the softest swaddles they own!

Nessa Foye Handmade Bunting

Today on Mama Finds we feature Nessa Foye Handmade Bunting. Nessa makes the cutest handmade fabric bunting that’s perfect for any occasion including weddings, showers, parties, nurseries, home decor & more. Aside from having tons of cute items available on her etsy store, she also does custom orders which I love! I sent her a few photos of the  nursery and she made the perfect bunting to match my son’s room! Let’s learn more about Nessa and how she started her business…

“Growing up in England bunting was everywhere, whether it be at a country fete, party or milestone event. I always thought it brought such cheer and style to a gathering, so was surprised by how tricky it was to find for my Vermont wedding years ago. I ended up sewing my own and enjoyed it so much that I started Nessa Foye – Handmade Bunting. It has also allowed me to stay at home to look after my baby girl, which has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’m all for stay at home entrepreneur mamas!” –Nessa Foye

Nessa at beach.jpg

“In this day and age, I think it is very easy to buy mass produced products made in the far east which you use once and then throw away. My emphasis is therefore on creating high quality handmade products, with attention to detail and which are long lasting. A lot of people buy my bunting for baby showers and because they are made of fabric, they can be used to decorate their baby’s nursery afterwards and even used at future birthday parties to add a whimsical touch! I also love working with people on custom requests and making sure they get exactly what they want, knowing that my bunting will be adding the finishing touch to their special occasion or home.” –Nessa Foye

PUR Home

Today on Mama Finds we feature Angela Richardson, CEO and formulator/product developer of PUR Home. Angela is passionate about natural products and began her journey into eco-friendly living 5 years ago when she made her first ever natural bar of soap… and she has been obsessed ever since! Angela’s love for ingredients and their function in products is what drives her to create natural household and skincare products. PUR Home is committed to creating simple and sustainable products, giving special consideration to selecting ingredients that are plant-based, biodegradable, sulfate-free, and non-toxic.

IMG_20160113_230514.jpg

“I started PUR Home after years of making natural and organic skin care. I knew when I first started making soap that I wanted to also create a product line of household cleaners that were safe and effective.” – Angela, PUR Home

Screen Shot 2017-06-09 at 2.12.54 PM.png

“I believe that people are under the assumption that a lot of companies are green or eco-friendly and they are not. Anyone can label their product green/organic/eco-friendly/plant-based/biodegradable and when you really look at their label and investigate those ingredient (if they are even listed), you will find a lot of offenders that are carcinogens, skin agitators, unsafe for mother earth and so on. I suffer from atopic dermatitis and go into these crazy scratching fits that are so bad that I cry. It generally happens when I buy store bought soaps and detergents. For me, PUR Home is a healthy alternative to that. My skin is super sensitive and so I have to be aware of what I use.” – Angela, PUR Home

Here are a few of my favorite products from PUR Home:

Dish soap

I wash the dishes mostly in my house so I love a dish soap that cleans and cuts grease…but is not harsh on my hands!

IMG_20170609_134357

Laundry Detergent

Both Powder and Liquid Laundry Detergents are wonderful. They do not contain any No SLS. No dyes. No 1-4 dioxane. No EDTA. No petrochemicals. No Chlorine. No Phosphates. No DEA. No formaldehyde. No optical brighteners. No synthetic preservatives. No animal testing.

“As someone with sensitive skin and can easily have a reaction just by wearing clothes, it is important that my detergent cleans well but also doesn’t cause any irritation to my skin.” – Angela, PUR Home

IMG_20170609_134232

Wool dryer balls

These save time and money. You don’t have to buy those toxic softeners or dryer sheets, these replace them both. They make my clothes soft and reduce static cling significantly. Plus they last 3 years or 1000 dyes. That is huge savings.

Norse Decor

Today on Mama Finds we feature Bjoerg Larsen, owner of Norse Decor. Bjoerg  is originally from Denmark and she is passionate about Scandinavian design! In 2013 she moved to the US with her husband, with a total of 6 suitcases, and no furniture or home decor. When they had a hard time finding the Scandinavian decor they loved at affordable prices here in the US, they decided to start an online shop that featured good quality, modern designs!

Outline_Dinner_Mats_580x@2x.jpg

“Being from Scandinavia, I have also had a passion for Scandinavian design. When my husband and I moved to the US in 2014 we quickly realized how hard it was to find beautiful Scandinavian home decor at decent prices, and I wanted to change that. I believe that everyone should have the chance to add a little piece of Scandinavia to their home.” -Bjoerg Larsen, Norse Decor

Geo_frost_tray_and_black_bowls_43ac2453-abdc-4b4e-860e-57f1c0888bf6_580x@2x.png

“I think the clean lines, light colors and minimalistic design that characterize Scandinavian decor are elements that should be available to everyone. The Scandinavian culture – especially that of Denmark where I’m from – builds on the concept of Hygge, and I’d love to help other people bring hygge and beauty to their home. Many people think that hygge and minimalism don’t go together, but it’s actually what Danish hygge is based on. Everyone deserves hygge in their home!” -Bjoerg Larsen, Norse Decor

Here are some of the top products in Norse Decor:

Baby bimble hoptimist

“Hoptimists are made with the purpose to spread joy! They are classic Danish design produced in Denmark.  I look at my  hoptimist every day and it just makes me happy – it was a present from my sister when we moved to the US with a reminder to always stay happy and optimistic. That’s what I think others will love about it as well! The happiness and the joy that it brings is amazing.’ -Bjoerg Larsen, Norse Decor

My son Carson is OBSESSED with his baby bumble hoptimist! It’s yellow so he named it ‘baby bumble bee’ 🙂 Every time he walks past the table it sits on he pats it’s head to make it dance and says, “look how happy he is!” If you want to bring a little happiness to your home, use code mamafinds to get free shipping on the baby hoptimists!

Lyngby tea light holders with scented candle

“Elegance and simplicity to create the perfect ‘hygge’ atmosphere. As a native dane, I’m a firm believer in ‘hygge’ and even though I always say that there’s more to hygge than dim light and candles, they still play a role when it comes to hygge. These ones in particular are perfect for your summer evening either inside or outside.” -Bjoerg Larsen, Norse Decor

“I love the Unites States, and I love the prints from Kortkartellet. This map is the perfect combination of color and graphic design! It’s stylish wall decor – and who doesn’t love that?” -Bjoerg Larsen, Norse Decor

Indigo Rose

Today on Mama Finds we feature Tami Olsen, owner of Indigo Rose. Based in Hawaii, Tami creates beautiful and unique hand-dyed items for tiny humans. Her goal is to create products, whether functional or decorative, that are beautiful additions to your home!

IMG_20170107_122729467-01.jpeg

“I started my business for a couple reasons. First, as a stay at home mom of two kids and running a mini daycare out of my home I was struggling with the lack of challenging myself personally and doing something I enjoy. I have always been a creative person and have a degree in interior so it was natural for me to turn to the arts. So between that and having the desire to continue to stay at home with my children I started brainstorming, and after a lot of thought and research I turned to indigo. I decided to try it out and I was hooked! Because sewing is something that comes somewhat naturally to me I decided to try out swaddle blankets. My little boy who was about 9 months at the time loved his blankets (and still does)!” -Tami, Indigo Rose

il_570xN.1000797969_ilzs.jpg

“My kids are my real passion! I didn’t only create Indigo Rose so that I could have a creative outlet but also so I could contribute to my family financially while being in the home with them. It’s really great doing something everyday (or almost daily) that I enjoy and can provide my children with what they need. The best part is that my daughter who is almost six can see me as a working, successful, professional woman as well as being there for her whenever she needs. My husband and I are raising her to be a modern feminist and to me this is the best way. I’m also so blessed to have a husband who
doesn’t think that what I am doing is secondary to his career!” -Tami, Indigo Rose

il_570xN.1120804140_qt3e

Her blankets are so light and airy which makes them perfect for swaddling in the summer and warm climates. I LOVE  indigo items and believe it is a trend that is going to
stick around for a long time. The design of the indigo blanket is an original of Tami’s, and is one of the most requested designs. (And of course I requested this blanket for my son Boden’s nursery!!!)

Screen Shot 2017-05-04 at 11.43.27 AM

The design below is also classic! This works for bohemian, minimalist and many other nursery themes.

DSCF6501.JPG

“Another favorite product I have are the rainbow blankets and sheets. They were inspired by my very own rainbow baby, my son. I wanted to celebrate that the healing his birth and life have given me and I know that others want to celebrate their rainbow children as well.” -Tami, Indigo Rose

The GARAGE Collective

Today on Mama Finds we feature The GARAGE Collective a unique collection of home accents, jewelry, accessories, and plant bar. As soon as I walked into their Laguna Beach store I instantly fell in love with every item on the shelves! Everything in their store has been carefully cultivated by four of the most style-savvy women, so their store is stocked with gorgeous and unique items that you won’t find in most places.

18076859_410083346040624_8036218324168986553_o.jpg

“I have always had an interest in fashion and design, specifically interiors. Last year, I read the book Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and to say I was inspired would be an understatement. I reached out to a couple friends to see if they would be interested in doing pop-ups out of our garages and the GARAGE collective was born.” -Kristin, The GARAGE Collective

18155893_411195049262787_4832658183707528239_o.jpg

“Last November I stumbled upon an available space. The timing couldn’t have been worse but if I waited for the perfect opportunity at the perfect time I would be waiting forever. I begged my husband (ha ha) and we signed a lease. I couldn’t do it with out the support and talent of my girls.. Carma, Ali and Lisa. The GARAGE collective evolved into a co-op where I can collaborate with talented women who inspire me. Together we share our style and favorite finds with the community we love. It’s such a blessing to be able to pursue our passions together. -Kristin, The GARAGE Collective

“I’m in love with everything in the shop. Literally, a lot of it comes home with me. My obsession is the textiles: pillows, blankets and rugs. I think the Instagram feed shows that. Carma’s jewelry is dainty and classic. Her slave bracelet is a must for summer and everyone should have one of her hand stamped necklaces. Lisa has the most amazing collection of cutting boards. I have bought so many from her. They are perfect for entertaining or even hanging on the wall in your kitchen. Ali is our queen of craft. There is nothing she can’t make. Her embroidered Vietnamese rice baskets are amazing! Everyone needs at least one!” -Kristin, The GARAGE Collective

Rachel Alvarez Art

Today on Mama Finds we feature Rachel of Rachel Alverez Art, the “Naptime Artist”. After she became a mom, Rachel put her art on hold for a bit, until she found she could paint while her babies were napping! Her beautiful paintings vary in subject matter since they are inspired by everything around her… from local roads trips to her son’s snack plate!

“I love art- always have. I want my kids to see that they can do whatever they put their mind to. I want them to see that they can be happier doing what makes them happy, and not worry about what everyone else thinks of their job.” -Rachel, Rachel Alverez Art

10974736_10155222050250215_2580533769434942228_o(1).jpg

“After receiving my art degree in college, I landed a corporate job- my career took a big turn away from the arts. Years later, as a new wife and mom, my husband encouraged me to paint again. The only time that I had to paint was during nap times. When my son was about 2 1/2 “thenaptimeartist” was born. I opened an etsy shop and began selling my oil and watercolor paintings. About 6 months ago I secured a website and and accompanying online store shop.rachelalvarezart.com” -Rachel, Rachel Alverez Art

Here are a few of my favorite products in her shop:

US Watercolor Map

I Love this piece because of how much effort and time went into the completion of it. It was a massive undertaking and it feels great to have accomplished such a huge goal! I think others will like it because it is not a typical US map- this map is more of a fine art piece that can blend in to almost any type of decor.

Dear Santa Cards

“I love these cards because they were born out of a series of paintings I did revolving around toddler snacks. I started thinking about how many times a day I cut grapes, serve milk, etc. and how quickly that will change. I started thinking about how kids grow so fast, and these moments never come back. I wanted a way for parents to document a fun memory of their kids. I think others will enjoys these because they are so relatable to simple childhood joys.”-Rachel, Rachel Alverez Art

Individual State Prints or Notecards

These items are perfect for the hard to shop for person, or for the person you are missing. They are not the digital images, that are so popular right now, these pieces celebrate memories, favorite places and home.

Stoplight Golight

In honor of upcoming Daylight Savings Time, we feature Stoplight Golight! As most parents know, it can be so hard to keep kiddos on a sleep schedule. And just when you get them on a good schedule… BAM, along comes daylight savings! (Seriously, can we vote to get rid of this already? I’m pretty sure most toddler moms would band together on this one!) Thank goodness for Stoplight Golight!  The concept is easy – even for children as young as two! Red light means stop, Green light means go. This amazing product was created my two moms, Courtney and Whitney, who also happen to be sisters. Let’s learn more on how they came up with this idea…

BeeZee Sisters - Courtney & Whitney(1).JPG
Courtney and Whitney, co-owners/moms/sisters

“We started our business out of necessity. I had 2 year old twins and a newborn at the time and I NEEDED SLEEP! The easiest way for me to get some sleep would be to get my twins on a good bedtime, wake time and nap time schedule. Problem was they couldn’t tell time and quite frankly didn’t find the sleep thing as important as I did. One day, Courtney and
I were running errands with my kids. We were stopped at a stoplight and one of my twins said, “Momma, red means stop and green means go!” Courtney and I looked at each other and realized we could find a way to get them on a sleep schedule with it being fun for them. At that moment the Stoplight Golight timer was born.” -Whitney, Stoplight Golight

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-2-45-59-pm

“Once we started implementing the Stoplight Golight, we found that toddler and kids enjoy “their” timer. They have taken ownership in having it on and it makes them feel more confident and in “control” of their schedules. The Stoplight Golight quickly became a tool for other tasks than just sleep schedules. We used it for teeth brushing, potty training, time outs, reading and homework time.” -Whitney, Stoplight Golight

screen-shot-2016-11-01-at-2-46-14-pm

“We are passionate about the Stoplight Golight timer because we know it works and it can help other families with their day to day schedules. We love the fact that parents and children love it and use it everyday. It’s like uncovering a great secret and you feel you have to share it with everyone.” -Whitney, Stoplight Golight

Auggie Froggy

Today we feature Kathleen, owner of Auggie Froggy. I love her shop so much because it is FULL of cool stuff for creative kids! My son loves pretend play, and her adorable handmade products let his imagination come to life! And since she makes all the pieces she sells, each item is unique and high quality…perfect for holiday gifts for all the little ones on your list!

“When I had my son I quit my job to be a stay at home mom. I started making costumes, a playmat, hats, and other things for him when I couldn’t find what I wanted. Every time I made something people would ask where I got it. Eventually I realized that other people were looking for the same things. I love finding cool fabrics and designing products which I think kids and parents will enjoy.” -Kathleen, Auggie Froggy

img_20160924_183254

“I love how imaginative little kids are and I try to make things which feed their creativity using both form and function. I make aprons which have a safe cross strap design and are great for art, cooking, and experiments. I was looking for hats which are comfortable (so they stay on), cover the ears, and look cool, and ended up making my own fleece lined hats.” -Kathleen, Auggie Froggy

“Most of what I make is gender neutral, but I also try to step outside of mainstream gender roles. For example, I just made some hats that are pink, but with a fun robot pattern. I also have messenger bags with little girl superheroes. I know so many kids who love their own combination of things which might not be readily available. A girl can like bunnies and construction vehicles. A boy can like glitter and trains (in fact my son does). I recently made a messenger bag for a girl who likes purple and loves dragons. Custom pieces like that are so satisfying to create.” -Kathleen, Auggie Froggy

il_570xn-1068081988_8tip

Wing and mask sets

The wings are cotton with a feather pattern and have elastic loops which slip over the shoulders and wrists and come with a matching bird mask. They are very versatile because they go over whatever the child enjoys wearing, they can wear them together or separately. The cutest thing is that every kid immediately starts flapping their arms when they put them on!

img_20160829_170135

Crowns and magic wands

“I love watching a kid look at the available options and choosing just the right one. Kids create their own amazing stories using a dragon wand or a fox crown. I add to my shop all the time, and I love hearing from customers about what they’d love to see.” -Kathleen, Auggie Froggy

img_20160903_163351

Messenger bags

“The little messenger bags which I make are about 7″ X 9″ and I made the strap adjustable from little kid to adult (every parent who has ended up carrying around a tiny bag with a fixed strap will like this feature). Some of the fabrics are suitable for kids or adults too, so anyone could use them. My son is 3.5 and he uses his to carry his lunch to school every day, but he has also used it to bring small toys along to a restaurant, or to show his stuffed animals the zoo.” -Kathleen, Auggie Froggy
