Danielle Hornyak Jewelry

Today on Mama Finds we feature Danielle Hornyak Jewelry, a Los Angeles based designer who makes original handmade jewelry…while her daughter naps! She uses traditional metalsmithing techniques to create beautiful pieces of lasting quality, each piece first born on paper and then fabricated in metal to endure. When I found out that I was pregnant with my second baby, I began looking for a unique necklace to engrave both my sons’ names on. When I found Danielle’s website I fell in love with her crescent moon necklace…and now I wear it every day! Let’s learn more about Danielle and what inspired her to start her business…

“I have always loved making art since I was a young girl. I dabbled in painting, jewelry, candle making etc. I student Fine Art in undergrad & that is where I discovered jewelry and metal smithing. I fell in love with the process. After graduation it was a natural transition to continue creating work, just scaled down from sculptural objects to wearable jewelry.” –Danielle Hornyak Jewelry

“At the root of it all I value connection with others the most. Creating work that resonates with people keeps me going. Getting customer photos and the interaction with them is a driving force of why I continue making work. I had a customer send me a video of her proposal today. I can’t put into words how it feels to make something that will forever be a symbol of a couples everlasting love. It’s such an honor! It is my hope that when my work is worn it brightens people’s days, makes them feel beautiful and forever reminds them of beautiful moments in their life. I appreciate all the support I’ve had as it helps me continue to be able to follow my passion while simultaneously allowing me to stay home with my young daughter.” –Danielle Hornyak Jewelry

She has a new line of 14k gold rings that her customers love! Each stone is unique and hand picked. These delicate rings  can be worn everyday but pack a punch of sparkle with diamonds, gemstones and solid gold.

“Customizable pieces have always been a great seller as well. It’s a way to make a piece more personal and meaningful for the recipient. I have a line of customizable pendants and the crescent moon option has been a top seller! I offer it in brass, silver or gold plated brass. It’s always fun to see what people opt to stamp on the pendants; birthdays, names, mantras, dates etc.  I designed these pendants to be a unique spin on the traditional bar name necklace that is commonly seen.” –Danielle Hornyak Jewelry

She also makes custom stamped key chains that are fun (and could also be used as a pet tag!)

Love Bubby

Today we feature Jaime Windau, the owner & designer of Love Bubby. Jaime has quite an impressive fashion resume… after graduating from Fashion Institute of Technology, she has worked for big labels including Limited Brands and Banana Republic. But after many years in the industry, she decided to leave behind the corporate world and focus on developing her small business…. and so Love Bubby was born!

Love Bubby.Photo.jpeg

“I have always loved fashion and have spent the majority of my career on the creative side of retail business. When my son was born I became his personal stylist. I found myself drawn to small shops online where I found more unique designs and loved the idea of supporting women who are living out their dreams. The level of detail and customer service you receive when you shop small was also very inspiring and knew I wanted to be a part of this community. In 2016, I left corporate retail behind and built our brand marrying my passion for retail and styling my little one.” -Jaime, Love Bubby

6740_copy_1024x1024.jpg

“My passion lies in so many different aspects of this business. It’s been so interesting learning how to build a brand. Some days I find myself in the creative designs of the season while others I focus on branding and marketing and some days are just about collaborating with other small business owners. When they say you quit your 9 to 5 to work 24/7 as an entrepreneur, it is no joke! But I love it and it never feels like work.” -Jaime, Love Bubby

Little Feminist tee
“If I had to pick my favorite tee it would have to be the Little Feminist design. Since its launch it has been one of our best sellers and we have had equal response from mamas regardless of the gender of their child.” -Jaime, Love Bubby

feminist_1e2a2d6e-0663-41e3-9cd9-8cbc4e3f037b_1024x1024.jpg
I personally love that all of Love Bubby tees are made with some of the softest fabrics in the market! And little customers really love this detail too! Parents have told Jaime stories about their kids refusing to wear other shirts in the wardrobe, wanting to wear them to sleep, or making their mamas wash them multiple times a week just so they can keep wearing them! I know from first hand experience since my son Carson LOVES their tees!! He has really sensitive skin and so he likes to wear his Swagster shirt because as he says, “it’s not a itchy one!”

Periodyc Design

Today on Mama Finds we feature Sandra, owner and designer of Periodyc Design. Her shop creates unique chemistry inspired gifts for adults, kids and babies. And like most great chemistry experiments, Periodyc Designs was started as an accident! Sandra was looking for unique gifts for her engineering friends, and began writing funny phrases using the periodic elements. She continued to design new phrases and products and Periodyc Designs was born!

20170218_164105.jpg

“I was looking for a unique baby shower gift for a dear friend; we went to engineering school together at Lafayette College. Then my colleague, a PhD student in chemistry, came into my office one day and was bragging he could write anything in periodic elements. I daylight as a manager and faculty member and the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. It was a eureka moment when we came up with Baby Genius and Future engineer. From there it expanded to our current mission: to create gifts and apparel that encourages the next generation of engineers and scientists.” -Sandra, Periodyc Design

il_570xN.981623080_c7a5.jpg

“STEM education is important for all our children, especially for little girls. My background is in civil engineering and I teach innovation and entrepreneurship to our freshman and senior engineering students. It bothers me that women are still a minority in these classes. When asked how many woman is enough on the Supreme Court, Ruth Bader Ginsberg answered 9; I agree. I want to see more women than men in my classes. I have a 6 month old daughter and I don’t want her to grow up thinking science and math is nerdy or uncool, or to be popular she has to be dumb. We want kids at a very young age to think science and math is cool and then go on to solve problems worth solving and change the world.”-Sandra, Periodyc Design

Future Engineer

This future engineer design looks great on the shirts for babies, toddlers and youth sizes. It sends a clear message and and promotes STEM.

Chemistry Teacher

“I love our chemistry teacher and science teacher designs because to have engaged students means we need awesome teachers that can bring science to life. I’m uplifted when these products are ordered knowing they have inspired some stem focused kiddos this school year.” -Sandra, Periodyc Design

il_570xN.934385583_6stk.jpg

Custom Orders

“One thing that I like about our etsy shop is our custom orders. We can literally write anything in elements. So at Christmas we did a design for design for a t shirt for a step dad, ‘I am Steppy’ and a coffee mug for a science teacher ‘Mrs. Dalton.’ I feel nothing says I thought of you more than a customized gift.”-Sandra, Periodyc Design

Borboleta Bag

Today on Mama Finds we feature Veronica, owner and designer of Borboleta Bag. Since both of her parents are entrepreneurs, Veronica knew that one day she’d start her own business. Her love of making things was just part of the reason she decided to start a handbag company… let’s learn more about the inspiration behind Borboleta Bag…

15802430_946835878781542_7426025251084959744_n

“I love to travel and I always struggled find the right bag that would meet all my travel needs. Like many women out there, I want bags that are lightweight with a lot of pockets to organize my things. I couldn’t find that in the market. All of my belongings would lump together and it’d take me forever to find what I needed. The worst was digging for my keys. It was embarrassing! And like many women I know, I love to carry a lot of things around. Most bags are heavy to begin with, and things only go downhill from there. I didn’t want my bag to limit how much I could carry.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag
“So I started experimenting on my own to solve my problems. I had studied fashion design, so I already knew about pattern-making and sewing. I experimented with lots of pockets and zippers so I could quickly access every compartment and each of my things. More pockets usually mean more weight, but with a little creativity and lots of experimentation I finally had some lightweight designs that I loved.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

dav
“My other inspiration is also personal, but in a very different way. I’m a 2004 Tsunami survivor and I volunteered on the scene for one week. It was a difficult experience and I still have trouble talking about it. But it inspired me to work in the nonprofit sector. After a stint in a DC-area nonprofit, I began the Ocean of Wisdom Foundation to help underprivileged students with education and school breakfasts, all with zero overhead costs. I launched Borboleta in 2012. For every bag I sell, a portion goes toward feeding those hungry bellies and minds.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

“I know a lot of brands say they donate to charities, but for me, the foundation projects are the core of my brand. I started my foundation way before I started the brand. It’s how I combine my two passions – charity and design.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

happy-kids-foundation
“I love hearing my customers say that my bags changed their lives. Not in a big way, of course, but that my designs make their lives more efficient. I also do custom orders, so I’ve bonded with my customers and many have become my friends. I get to meet my customers around the world, from the USA to Thailand and Australia, and I am so grateful that my designs connect me to so many wonderful people. Of course, the other thing that drives me are the kids at the Ocean of Wisdom Foundation. The opportunities to improve both customers’ and these children’s lives are what drive me.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

All of Borboleta bags are customizable. Customers can choose their own canvas colors and prints (more than 20 options!) and they can also choose lining and strap colors as well. So each bag should be as unique as it’s owner!

Lunette bag

One of my favorites is the Lunette bag. I designed this bag to be very functional – a bag that can hold so much and yet stay so light. And it has a zipper at the back for easy access when you need to grab a few things quickly and securely.

Ivy tote

“My Ivy Tote, which is one of the best sellers, is also a design I’m proud of. It has a total of 8 pockets, including a key holder, which makes it super easy to organize and retrieve things. It’s made from durable, lightweight fabric” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

Treasure Box bag

The Treasure Box bag, was inspired by a doctor’s bag, has had some of the best feedback. I love the classic, yet fun twist to it. And it opens all the way so it’s easy for you to find and organize your things.

“We have a direct-to-consumer business model so there is no middleman. This way we can offer our bags at lower price points while keeping the best quality. My makers have great salary, and my customers get to pay less because we sell directly to them through our own e-commerce store.” – Veronica, Borboleta Bag

The Brave Mama Co.

Today on Mama Finds we feature Haley, creator of The Brave Mama Co. This company creates adorable fashion pieces, and her blog is so inspiring! Haley’s goal is to equip mamas to do motherhood bravely…because Brave Mamas raise Brave babies! Let’s learn more about Haley and how The Brave Mama Co company got started…

image2(9).JPG

“I love to make things. I love design and fashion. I love motherhood. I love encouraging and building up other Mamas. And out of these loves the idea for The Brave Mama Co was formed. I’ve always wanted to start my own business but it just never seemed to be the right time. Even though my youngest is only 4 months old, it just seemed like God was directing the timing and direction of this endeavor. So with much prayer and help from my amazing graphic designing mother, I decided to go for it and start this business.” -Haley, The Brave Mama Co.

image1(10).JPG

“I’m passionate about building up and encouraging other mom’s in their journey of motherhood. Not just because I love being a mom but because I know how God ordained that role is. It’s an exhausting job and often I think Mom’s feel isolated and alone. I’d love it if something I made could encourage or inspire that inner strength and confidence for a Mom to be all she’s called to be. It’s such an important job. We’re raising amazing little people to be extraordinary big people. We can’t afford to not have each others back and to not cheer each other on.” -Haley, The Brave Mama Co.

mockup-24d5cd69_1024x1024.jpg

“I’d love to see a culture shift…that instead of buying into Mom guilt and Mom judgement we would instead reach out and tell each other how awesome we are and that we’re doing a great job. I’ve been brought to tears in a grocery store by an older mom who stopped to tell me I was doing great even though I was in the middle of a less than glamorous parenting moment. My hope is that my little business can reflect that same spirit of encouragement.” -Haley, The Brave Mama Co.

Here are some of my favorite pieces in her shop:

Warrior Mama

This tee is such a great reminder that my role as a mom is to be a warrior for my kids, to fight for them, to fight for my family, to pray fiercely for them, to stand strong and be an example of faith and love for them.

image_1024x1024.jpg

Zookeeper

This “Zookeeper” tee is just awesome! We’ve all had those moments where navigating our kids in public places looks and feels a little like wrangling monkeys!! I’m a toddler mom so to me this Zookeeper shirt perfectly describes my #momlife!

Three Little Birds Boutique

Today on Mama Finds we feature Amber, owner of Three Little Birds Boutique. Her boutique focuses on bringing mothers and daughters together… through fashion! It truly is a one stop shop for all things mommy and me!

image4(1).JPG

“I’ve always loved seeing mothers and daughters matching. I would pin stuff on Pinterest that I would want when I had a daughter and when the day came I was so excited to finally be able to match…. but finding the clothes I pinned was harder that I thought, or I would buy them and not love the products. So, inspired by my wonderful daughter, I decided to open my own mother daughter boutique. She is my whole world and I love bringing the joy I have when matching or rocking a great tee to others.” -Amber, Three Little Birds

Necessitees.co

Today on Mama Finds we feature Karina, Co-Founder & CEO of Necessitees.co. When I found out about Necessitees.co I was SOOO inspired by the good work they are doing to support families that cannot afford diapers. Diaper need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep an infant or toddler clean, dry and healthy… and I was so shocked to learn that 1 in 3 U.S. families suffer from diaper need! Although diapers are a necessity for babies, there is surprisingly no direct government assistance programs that provides diapers for these families. So to help with this problem, Necessitees.co donates a percentage of each sale to diaper banks that can assist those in need.

14517351_1786738728246526_7695130253712211021_n.jpg

“I’m a volunteer for Diaper Bank of the Ozarks, and I wanted to start a business that would give back to this organization and help provide diapers to babies in need. I work closely with my husband, Sean, on our original designs and our two-year-old son, Eliot, is a major source of inspiration for us both.” – Karina, Necessitees.co

“I love the creativity that Necessitees.co inspires as well as being able to connect with other small business owners. I’m passionate about helping to end diaper need and this is a way that I can give back to my community while building our own business.” – Karina, Necessitees.co

Royal Scout & Co

RoyalScout&Co.-215.jpg

Today on Mama Finds we feature Victoria of Royal Scout & Co. I absolutely love this shop! The woodsy glamour of her faux fur Bootcuffs and Neck Wraps add so much style to ANY outfit…from flannel and jeans to your Wedding dress! Let’s learn more about what inspired Victoria to create these gorgeous “woodland chic” designs…

IMG_5810(3).JPG

“Growing up in the Northwoods of Minnesota, I enjoyed countless childhood hours scouting the outdoors, thoroughly smitten by the perfection of the natural beauty that surrounded me…A cedar wood-paneled cabin, a roaring blaze in a stone fireplace, a cozy pile of plaid blankets, all wrapped up in a fragrant forest…honestly what could be better? And when early vocational testing suggested that I become a “Forest Ranger”, no one was surprised!” – Victoria, Royal Scout & Co.

IMG_5815.JPG

“Well, as often happens, life led me down a slightly different vocational path…Being a Mom to 6 kiddos ranging in age from 30 to 10 has been the most important job I’ll ever do, but I am also very grateful for the opportunity Royal Scout & Co. has given me to enjoy the creative drive that’s always been a huge part of me!  (She also has an interior design business Vignette Resourceful Interiors…talk about multi-tasking!)” – Victoria, Royal Scout & Co.

IMG_5813.JPG

So although Victoria never did become a Forest Ranger, that “girl in the forest” still influences everything she designs  at Royal Scout and Co.  Here are a few of the top products in her shop:
